A “how to” for the OC Innovation Vault

What is it: The OC Innovation Vault is an online community to help learn about, connect with, and do business with Orange County’s biomedical and IT industries.

Why would I use it: As an entrepreneur, The Vault is  your resource to help you on your way. With The Vault, you can:

·         Research “the basics” of entrepreneurship step-by-step

·         Learn about current trends and news in your industry

·         Know about current programs and events that make sense for you

·         Submit an idea or a business plan

·         Find money – capital sources and investors

·         Connect with other entrepreneurs – both new and “serial”

·         Find resources  who know how to help entrepreneurs

·         Share what you know in an open forum

·         Position yourself to do business!

·         You will see three categories:

o   Learn

o   Connect

o   Commerce

·         If you click on “Learn” you will now see a menu of categories to choose from. Topics of high interest for entrepreneurs include:

o   Programs and Events – great networking  and learning opportunities

o   Entrepreneur Assistance – a “step-by-step” for entrepreneurs

o   Innovation Research – learn what’s hot in your sector

o   So Cal Capital – stats on funding and links to regional VCs and investors

·         If you click on “Connect” you will see a new menu of categories to choose from. Entrepreneurs tend to like the following:

o   Entrepreneur Network – a place to learn about other entrepreneurs and submit a question or business plan

o   Professional Services – listings of service providers who know how to help entrepreneurs

o   Capital – VCs and investors

o   Jobs/Talent – great to find a resource, or an opportunity

o   Forum, Blog, Wiki – Interact with the entrepreneurial community in real time!

·         If you click on “Commerce” you will now see a new menu. This is the section to “do business” with the community. As we grow, you will see that some sections ask you to fill out a brief form if you’d like to sell your product or service. Also, be sure to scroll through these sections:

o   Services Available – current service providers in OC

o   Commercial Real Estate – see what’s available in OC
