“Israel Rejects UN truce Resolution” #1860

Posted by: Larry Gilbert  :  Category: Fresh Juice

While the Israeli leadership and citizens prefer living in peace and harmony with all their neighbors, they chose to reject UN Resolution 1860 calling for a halt in Israel’s Operation Cast Lead response to incoming mortars from Gaza.  For those not familiar with the Hamas organization Hamas “is the Arabic acronym for the Islamic Resistance Movement, a Palestinian organization committed to eliminating Israel”

As long as Hamas launched rockets continue landing inside Israel, and tunnels connecting to Egypt remain open for smuggling weapons into Gaza, they have rejected the latest efforts by the UN Security Council to establish a cease fire agreement. The Security Council vote was 14-0 with the United States abstaining.

While the UK Guardian has reported that low level efforts to stop the fighting have commenced between the US and Hamas the Obama spokespersons have denied said rumor.

Blagojevich impeached!

“The Illinois House voted overwhelmingly Friday to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich, an unprecedented action that sets up a state Senate trial on whether he should be thrown out for allegedly trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat and other charges,” according to the Sacramento Bee.

Blogejevich’ attempt to sell President Elect Barack Obama’s Senate seat was just the tip of the iceberg.  Other charges included the fact “that Blagojevich expanded a health care program without proper authority, that he circumvented hiring laws to give jobs to political allies, that he spent millions of dollars on foreign flu vaccine that he knew was not needed and could not be brought into the country.” Read more…

Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist supports Sheriff Sandra Hutchens

Posted by: Art Pedroza  :  Category: "The OC", OC GOP, Orange County Sheriff, Sandra Hutchens, immigration, latinos

Bad enough that Sheriff Sandra Hutchens is clearly supported by a slew of Carona hacks, as we revealed earlier this week, now it appears that Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist is also a Hutchens supporter.  The Mexican-hating Gilchrist, who aborted a run for Congress against Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez last year, wrote this comment in our Hutchens post:

“You women-hating naysayers should should reel out for a while and just let Sheriff Hutchens do her job. Femininity in law enforcement is a reality, so get used to it.”

As for Gilchrist’s support for Hutchens, this is not the first time he has stood up for troubled Sheriffs.  In November of last year, Register columnist Frank Mickadeit wrote a column entitled “Carona gets new Assistant in Gilchrist.” Read more…

Santa Ana City Line brags about low paying jobs for non-union immigrants

I have often written about the travesty that is the City Line newspaper.  For years this public relations gimmick has been published by the organization formerly know as the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce.  They used to do that with money provided by their buddies on the Santa Ana City Council.  Then they would turn around and endorse them.

Supposedly the City no longer pays to publish the City Line, although I am sure that by now Santa Ana City Manager Dave Ream has found a way to throw money at the Greater Santa Ana Business Alliance, which used to be our Chamber of Commerce.

Now the O.C. Weekly’s Gustavo Arellano has written about the City Line’s latest goof.  Here is an excerpt from his post: Read more…

Jim Gray retires from the O.C. Superior Court and will jump back into politics

Posted by: Art Pedroza  :  Category: "The OC", fullerton, libertarian party

Some years ago my friend David Nunez introduced me to Judge Jim Gray - and I ended up helping out with his Congressional campaign against Loretta Sanchez.  He did not prevail, and afterwards he returned to the O.C. Superior Court.

Now Gray has retired from the bench and he his jumping back into politics, as a Libertarian.  He also has his own blog, and he writes a column for the Daily Pilot newspaper.

And the California Libertarian Party is throwing a party to honor Gray’s career and celebrate his return to politics.  Our blogger Tony Bushala, and his gracious wife Freydel, are hosting the party at their beautiful home in Fullerton.  Here is the official press release from the California Libertarian Party: Read more…

Overpaid Orange County managers get a cash bonus as County workers are laid off

Posted by: Art Pedroza  :  Category: "The OC", OC Supervisors, board of supervisors, carlos bustamante

The Orange County Register has found that 1,482 County of Orange executive and administrative managers are taking a bonus up front, in a taxable cash payment, to the tune of $4.4 million in 2008. This bonus was intended “to pay for education and career improvement courses,” however the managers are now cashing out without taking those courses!

“They do not have to report on how the money is spent, fueling speculation among the rank-and-file that managers are using the perk for golf club memberships and gym dues,” according to the O.C. Register. Read more…

Register Open House with publisher Terry Horne (amended)

Posted by: Larry Gilbert  :  Category: "The OC", Fresh Juice, Santa Ana, media

Anyone who reads the daily Register can acknowledge that they actively promoted today’s Open House breakfast meeting with publisher Terry Horne. We were told that this was the fourth and largest attendance event they have held with 205 registered. In fact, due to limited meeting space, they had to break us up into two groups.

Back on Nov 30th I posted an Orange Juice story based on Mr. Horne’s comments at an OC Forum event. While he did repeat some of that material this morning I will try to recap what he shared with our group. Before doing that let me take us back to a story by Mary Ann Milbourn that appeared in the Aug 23rd 2007 Register.

Headline.”New publisher’s focus is local.”

Posted by: Art Pedroza  :  Category: "The OC", Fresh Juice, Orange County Sheriff, Sandra Hutchens

UPDATE: Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist has declared his support for Sheriff Hutchens!

Here we go again.  Disgraced former Sheriff Mike Carona will soon receive his sentence, but his replacement, Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, is already being dragged down Carona Road by the same folks who supported Carona.

Take a look at the graphic below.  She is offering a photo opportunity for the price of $1,600 - $3,200, at her upcoming fundraiser, on Jan. 22!  Can’t afford a picture?  Well, you can attend this fundraiser for the paltry price of $250.

Now let’s have a look at the folks who are on the Host Committee for this event: Read more…
